January 13, 2025, Pune: The wholesale market at Pune’s Market Yard witnessed a significant surge in the supply of vegetables ahead of Bhogi celebrations. Due to increased demand, prices of vegetables such as okra, flat beans, cluster beans, brinjal, carrots, and peanut pods rose by 10-20%, according to traders. Prices for other vegetables remained stable.

On Sunday, approximately 150 truckloads of vegetables were brought to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard wholesale market from within the state and neighboring states. This marks a significant increase compared to the usual 90-100 trucks last week. Key contributions included 10-15 tempos of green chilies from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh; 4-5 tempos of cabbage and cowpeas from Karnataka and Gujarat; and 3-4 tempos of drumsticks from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, 28-30 tempos of carrots from Rajasthan and 28-30 trucks of peas from Madhya Pradesh were received, among others, shared by senior trader. 

Spike in Leafy Vegetable Prices:

The demand for leafy greens like coriander, fenugreek, dill, spring onions, mint, and spinach also increased due to Bhogi and Sankranti, leading to a 10-15% rise in their prices. For instance, coriander was priced between ₹800 and ₹1,500 per hundred bundles, and fenugreek ranged from ₹1,000 to ₹1,200.

Fruit Market :

In the fruit market, prices of jujube berries and lemons saw a hike, while rates for custard apples, sapodilla, pineapples, sweet limes, and pomegranates remained stable. On Sunday, the fruit arrivals included 30-40 tons of sweet lime, 50-60 tons of oranges, 15-20 tons of pomegranates, and 18-20 tempos of papaya. Additionally, 7,500-8,000 sacks of jujube berries, 2,000 sacks of lemons, and 6 truckloads of pineapples were recorded.
