Govt Mandates State Anthem Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha In School Assemblies Across All Boards
Mumbai, January 14, 2025: The Maharashtra state government has made it mandatory for all schools, regardless of their board affiliation, to include the state anthem, Jai Jai Maharashtra Maza, in daily assemblies. School Education Minister Dada Bhuse announced that the anthem will be played after the national anthem in government, CBSE, ICSE, and international board schools.
The initiative, introduced by the State School Education Department, aims to familiarize students with Maharashtra’s cultural identity and foster a sense of state pride. “This measure ensures that all students, irrespective of their school board, learn the state anthem and connect deeply with Maharashtra’s heritage,” said Bhuse.
Written by Raja Nilkanth Badhe, the anthem was declared the official state song in February 2023. Students are required to sing two stanzas, lasting 101 seconds.
Additionally, Bhuse emphasized enforcing the 2021 regulation mandating Marathi language instruction in all schools. He presented a 100-day roadmap for the education sector, which includes:
- Geo-tagging schools and Anganwadis with photographic mapping.
- Developing one school per cluster as a ‘CM Shri School’ under the PM Shri School Scheme.
- Implementing a State Curriculum Framework aligned with NEP 2020 for the academic year 2025-26.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed the department to focus on registering pre-primary schools and ensuring teachers meet qualification standards. Other measures include ranking schools on education quality, creating a digital registry of effective teaching practices, adapting CBSE patterns for state schools, and expediting teacher recruitment.
This cultural and educational overhaul reflects Maharashtra’s commitment to preserving its heritage while advancing modern educational practices.
