Mumbai is set to enhance its tourism appeal with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) recent approval of the “Mumbai Eye” project. This large Ferris wheel, modeled after the London Eye, aims to offer panoramic views of the city’s skyline and become a major tourist attraction. The project will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the exact location yet to be determined. Originally proposed in 2008, the initiative has faced multiple delays but now appears to be moving forward.

In addition to the Mumbai Eye, the city is anticipating several new attractions and infrastructure upgrades. A leopard safari at Sanjay Gandhi National Park is in the works, and the Navi Mumbai T1 Airport is scheduled to launch in May 2025. Furthermore, the Maharashtra Government has approved development projects totaling INR 1,213.44 crore for 10 religious, historical, and tourist sites across the state, including Aundha Nagnath Temple, Tiger’s Point, and Lion’s Point.

These developments come as Mumbai continues to be a significant destination for foreign tourists, accounting for nearly 15% of India’s total 9.24 million arrivals in 2024. The introduction of the Mumbai Eye and other attractions is expected to further boost the city’s tourism sector.
