Pune: Cabbie Arrested After Being Caught Masturbating While Staring At Techie In Moving Vehicle
Pune: A 20-year-old cab driver was arrested by Khadki police after a software engineer from a Kalyaninagar-based company lodged a complaint of sexual harassment against him. According to the complaint, the 41-year-old woman had booked a cab through a ride aggregator app on February 21 around 7:30 PM to travel from her office to Pimple Saudagar. The cab took the route via Shahdal Baba Chowk and Sangamwadi Road, eventually merging onto the Pune-Mumbai Highway.
Cab Driver’s Inappropriate Behavior
The woman alleged that during the ride, the driver adjusted the rear-view mirror and was masturbating while staring at her. Disturbed and alarmed, she immediately exited the cab at a traffic signal near Khadki and proceeded to the Khadki police station to report the incident.
Khadki police stated that the accused, Sumit Kumar, hailing from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, had recently shifted to Pimpri-Chinchwad from Mumbai. The police launched a search operation, tracking the cab through booking details and vehicle registration.
The accused had abandoned the vehicle on the highway and fled, but was eventually arrested.
A case has been registered against the driver under Sections 74 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for outraging a woman’s modesty and using obscene gestures. The investigation is ongoing.
