CBSE to Conduct Class 10 Board Exams Twice a Year from 2026, First Phase in Feb-Mar
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will introduce biannual Class 10 board exams starting from the 2026 academic session, allowing students to take the exam twice a year. The first phase will be held from February 17 to March 6, while the second phase is scheduled from May 5 to 20.
As per news agency, CBSE has approved draft norms for conducting Class 10 board exams twice annually. These norms will be open for public feedback until March 9, after which the policy will be finalized.
Key Highlights of the Proposed Scheme:
✅ Class 10 and Class 12 board exams will begin on the first Tuesday after February 15.
✅ In 2026, around 26.60 lakh Class 10 students and 20 lakh Class 12 students are expected to appear for the exams.
✅ Both exams will be based on the complete syllabus and prescribed textbooks.
✅ Major subjects such as Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi, and English will have fixed exam dates.
✅ Other subjects will be categorized as follows:
- Regional and Foreign Languages in one group.
- Remaining subjects grouped separately, with exams conducted two to three times based on student choices.
✅ The examination for Regional and Foreign Languages will be conducted on a single day.
The move aims to provide students with flexibility and multiple opportunities to improve their scores while maintaining academic standards.
Conclusion
With this new CBSE exam pattern, students will have better chances to enhance their performance, reducing academic pressure. The board’s final policy, expected after March 9, will determine how the two-board-exam system is implemented nationwide.
