Pune: Social media in Pune is buzzing with speculation after Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy was reportedly spotted having breakfast at the iconic Roopali Restaurant on FC Road. While the restaurant staff confirmed his visit, they refrained from sharing further details, leaving netizens curious about who accompanied him.

Social Media Reactions

Writer Shilpa Godbole took to X (formerly Twitter), commenting on the viral news:
“A sansaneet batmi (sensational news) is circulating in Pune’s social circles: Narayana Murthy supposedly made an appearance at Roopali restaurant this morning. But c’mon! If the Infosys co-founder was really there, wouldn’t he have already tweeted a photo with Pune’s Twitter elite?”

Meanwhile, Pune-based tech entrepreneur Amit Paranjape also addressed the buzz, clarifying that although he was at Roopali, he did not meet Murthy. He tweeted:
“Yes, I was at Roopali for a coffee this morning. And no, I didn’t meet the famous tech industry celebrity who was spotted there by many… earlier today. On a related note – some staff at these popular Udupi restaurants work very hard… More than 70 hours a week.”

Roopali: A Pune Landmark

For the uninitiated, Roopali Restaurant, known for its authentic South Indian cuisine, has been a favorite among Marathi film actors, theater artists, politicians, academics, and students. Originally opened as Madras Café in 1968, it later rebranded to Roopali and remains a cherished spot for Punekars.

Murthy’s 70-Hour Workweek Debate Resurfaces

Interestingly, Paranjape’s reference to restaurant staff working over 70 hours a week appears to be a subtle nod to Murthy’s controversial statement from last year, where he suggested that young Indians should work 70 hours per week to boost economic growth.

Narayana Murthy and Infosys

Murthy, who co-founded Infosys in 1981 with six others, started the company with an initial investment of ₹10,000 from his wife, Sudha Murty, who is now a Rajya Sabha member. Since then, Infosys has grown into a global IT giant, making most of its co-founders billionaires.

While Murthy’s breakfast outing at Roopali remains a topic of intrigue, one question lingers—who was he dining with?
