With only a few days left in the financial year, Pune residents have been facing difficulties in paying property tax due to a technical glitch in the municipal corporation’s website. The issue has persisted for the last four days, causing inconvenience to taxpayers.

The property tax department, a major revenue source for the municipal corporation, had a target of ₹2,700 crore for the 2024-25 financial year, out of which ₹2,100 crore has been collected so far. However, the remaining ₹600 crore target remains a challenge, especially with only 20 days left until the end of March.

The technical failure has led to disruptions at multiple property tax payment centers, with notices informing citizens about the server downtime. Officials fear this could impact revenue collection. The problem is further compounded by the state government’s decision to temporarily halt property tax collection from newly merged villages ahead of the assembly elections.

The Property Tax Department confirmed the issue, stating that the tax payment software is outdated and prone to frequent failures. Efforts are underway to resolve the technical problems, with normal operations expected to resume by Monday.
