Upon his return, the user spent months searching for work and eventually secured a job in India with a monthly salary of Rs 75,000. However, the financial strain continues.

A heartbreaking post on Reddit has gone viral, as a young man shares his emotional financial struggles after taking out a Rs 40 lakh education loan to study abroad. The post, shared by a user named “The Tech Philosopher,” details his overwhelming debt and the toll it has taken on his life as he struggles to make ends meet and support an ailing parent.

The user began by explaining how in 2022, he took out a Rs 40 lakh loan to pursue his Master’s degree in the US. His father, who ran a small manufacturing business, and the rest of his family pooled their resources to help him chase the dream of a brighter future. Despite completing his degree, he faced significant hurdles in securing employment due to the economic downturn, visa restrictions, and limited internship opportunities available to international students, especially those from India.

“I applied relentlessly for a year, but couldn’t even earn enough to cover my living expenses. My family had to send me money every month just so I could eat. This drained their savings,” he revealed. As if that wasn’t enough, the user’s father’s business eventually collapsed, and he fell ill. “They couldn’t support me anymore, and I had to return to India, heartbroken, jobless, and burdened with a massive loan.”

Upon his return, the user spent months searching for work and eventually secured a job in India with a monthly salary of Rs 75,000. However, the financial strain continues. “My EMI is Rs 66,000 per month, leaving me with just Rs 9,000 to save for myself. At least the family business is running now, and it can support us,” he said, adding that he is trying to take on freelance and part-time work to make ends meet.

The post has since resonated with many on Reddit, who have expressed their support and offered guidance for the young man in his difficult time.

“I don’t know who to turn to anymore. I’m trying to contact the bank for restructuring, applied for side gigs — but nothing has worked so far. That’s why I’m here: asking Reddit for advice, guidance, or if anyone knows how to navigate the next steps further. If you are / know any hiring manager, Recruiter who can get me an interview at a good company that would be super helpful, feel free to DM me. I feel confident on my skills that I can crack the interview if given the opportunity. I did my MSc in Management Information Systems, Undergrad is in IT. I have a couple of years of work experience doing Digital Product Management, Project Management, Strategy Consulting, UI-UX design, AI consulting, Marketing and Sales,” he adds in the post.
