UPI Update: Enable Others to Spend from Your Account – Here's How
UPI, or Unified Payments Interface, has become the most popular way to pay digitally in India. It’s become a normal part of daily life for most people. People choose UPI over cash because it’s easy to use and you can use it almost anywhere.
UPI is getting even more flexible:
Now you can share your UPI account not just with family, but with anyone, even if they don’t have a direct link to your bank account. This new feature called UPI Circle lets the main account holder give permission to others to make payments from their account.
The person who owns both a bank account and a UPI account can create a UPI Circle. Anyone added to this circle can then use UPI to make payments. Right now, up to five people can use the same UPI account to make payments at the same time.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) introduced this new feature in 2024. It’s available right now on the BHIM app, and they’re planning to add it to other UPI apps soon.
• To allow someone to make payments from your UPI account, add them as a secondary user.
• You can add them by entering their UPI ID or scanning their QR code if you don’t know their ID.
Two options for giving payment rights:
• Full delegation: The secondary user can make payments up to a specified limit without requiring your PIN.
• Partial delegation: You must authorize every transaction they initiate.
