No Treatment For Over 5 Hours Despite Bleeding: Rupali Chakankar Details Pregnant Woman's Death In Pune
Pune, April 7, 2025: Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar has made serious allegations regarding the recent death of a pregnant woman, Tanisha Bhise, at Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. Addressing the media after reviewing the case, Chakankar stated that despite the woman suffering from heavy bleeding, no medical treatment was provided for over five and a half hours.
Before holding the official review meeting, Chakankar visited the Bhise family to understand the sequence of events. She revealed that on March 15, Tanisha had first consulted Dr. Ghaisas and shared her complete medical history. However, following her death, the hospital’s internal inquiry committee publicly disclosed her confidential medical information on social media in an attempt to deflect blame — a clear violation of patient confidentiality, she said.
According to the preliminary investigation report submitted to the Director of Health Services, the patient had been called for a check-up on April 2. However, due to sudden bleeding on March 28, she was rushed to the hospital. The medical staff was alerted and preparations were made for surgery. Yet, before being moved to the operation theatre, the hospital allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh upfront for treatment.
The family offered to pay ₹3 lakh immediately and assured the rest would be arranged by the next day. Despite calls from the health department and government offices, the hospital reportedly refused to act. “At 2:30 am, the patient was forced to leave the hospital with no treatment provided, despite severe blood loss,” Chakankar stated.
She further added that the hospital shockingly told the family to “use whatever medicines you have and treat her in your own way.” This prolonged delay and stress deteriorated the patient’s mental condition.
Later that night, the family took her to Sassoon Hospital. However, due to her fragile mental state and excessive bleeding, Tanisha could not be stabilized and was transferred to Surya Hospital, where she passed away.
Chakankar condemned the hospital’s actions and confirmed that the incident has been taken seriously. A detailed final report is awaited and further action is expected.
