Pune: The Pune division of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has recorded the highest number of electricity consumers in the state, with 3,917,701 consumers currently receiving power services. Over the past two years, the division has added a record 4.34 lakh new connections, leading in electricity distribution across Maharashtra.

According to Rajendra Pawar, Chief Engineer of MSEDCL’s Pune Division, this region includes Pune, Baramati, and Kolhapur subdivisions. He shared these figures during the division’s annual review meeting held at the Prakashdoot Hall in Rasta Peth, Pune. The division’s focus on accurate billing, improved revenue recovery, and reduced power losses contributed to a significant annual revenue growth of ₹5,137.55 crore.

Pawar added that a 100% accurate billing target was set and achieved through effective measures. The department successfully recovered large sums of pending dues, reducing arrears from ₹124 crore to ₹69 crore in 2024–25. Additionally, electricity theft amounting to ₹62.4 crore was detected, and system losses were significantly minimized. Technical and commercial losses currently stand at 7.69%, with reductions seen in all major loss categories.

Solar Power Adoption on the Rise
Pune has also taken the lead in solar energy under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Yojana, contributing the highest share—15% of Maharashtra’s total installed rooftop solar capacity. In two years, the number of rooftop solar users in the Pune division increased from 9,977 to 28,604, with capacity rising from 249 MW to 474 MW.

Pawar credited the department’s performance to a focused three-pronged approach: quality service, revenue enhancement, and zero outstanding billing. He assured that the same approach would guide future operations across the division.
