New Delhi – The Indian Air Force (IAF) has confirmed that Operation Sindoor remains active and ongoing, despite a ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan that came into effect on May 10. The operation was launched in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.

In an official statement shared on social media, the IAF said:

“The Indian Air Force has successfully executed its assigned tasks in Operation Sindoor, with precision and professionalism. Operations were conducted in a deliberate and discreet manner, aligned with National Objectives. Since the operations are still ongoing, a detailed briefing will be conducted in due course. The IAF urges all to refrain from speculation and dissemination of unverified information.”

The operation, launched on May 7, targeted nine terrorist infrastructure sites located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The targets were identified based on verified intelligence linking them to recent terrorist activities against Indian interests.

Drone Intrusions Escalate Tensions

At a May 9 press briefingWing Commander Vyomika Singh disclosed that Pakistan deployed between 300 to 400 drones across 36 locations, from Leh to Sir Creek, in an apparent attempt to breach Indian airspace and test India’s air defence (AD) systems. These swarm drone intrusions occurred during the night of May 8–9 and targeted strategic locations along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC).

“Indian Armed Forces neutralized several drones using both kinetic and non-kinetic methods,” Wing Commander Singh said, appearing alongside Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Singh added that the motive behind these widespread incursions appeared to be intelligence gathering and an attempt to challenge India’s air defence capabilities.

Ceasefire Under Pressure

Although both countries agreed on a ceasefire across land, air, and sea beginning May 10, Pakistan’s continued provocations — including airspace violations and cross-border shelling — have kept tensions high. Power blackouts were enforced in several border towns as a precaution during Pakistani shelling incidents.

The Indian Armed Forces, while observing the ceasefire directive, remain on high alert, prepared to respond to any further violations. According to the IAF, all retaliatory actions post-May 7 have been conducted strictly under Operation Sindoor, in accordance with national security goals.
