One of the women involved in the Karvenagar incident, identifying herself as Swapnaja, responded to the controversy by stating, responded to the controversy by stating,

“On May 10, we were peacefully conducting an awareness campaign calling for peace in Karvenagar. Around 5:30–6:00 PM, a group of 15 people confronted us with questions, and within 10 minutes, 50–60 more joined them. They attacked us with whatever they could find — cricket bats, stones. We were nearly unconscious. Videos of the assault are available on our Facebook page.”

She alleged that BJP leaders Mahesh Powale and Sagar Dhame led the mob.

“Even after the police arrived, the assaults continued. We were beaten inside the police vehicle, and my saree was torn. Some of the men also issued threats of rape and murder to my female colleagues,” she claimed.

The woman further said that when they tried to file a complaint at the police station, they were initially discouraged from doing so.

“We insisted on filing the complaint, saying it was a violation of our individual rights. A crowd of over 50 had gathered outside the police station, and we requested a police escort to the hospital for medical tests due to our injuries. The police later dropped us off at Sassoon Hospital around 3 AM.”

She added that they were left to get the medical tests done on their own and returned later to the station to submit their reports and collect a copy of the complaint.
