In a concerning development amid heightened tensions, Pakistan’s intelligence operatives have reportedly launched a deceptive campaign targeting Indian journalists and civilians. Disguising themselves as Indian defence officials, these operatives are attempting to gather information related to the ongoing military effort known as Operation Sindoor.

Authorities have issued a public warning, urging citizens to remain alert and avoid engaging with suspicious communications. One specific number – +91 7340921702 – has been flagged as being used by these operatives, despite it appearing to originate from within India.

The strategy involves contacting media professionals and falsely claiming to represent high-level Indian military offices, including that of the Chief of Defence Staff. These impersonators have been inviting journalists to a fictitious press briefing allegedly scheduled for 2:30 PM in New Delhi, while subtly probing for questions related to military operations and potential damage to Indian bases.

“These attempts are designed to elicit sensitive details under the pretense of official communication,” an Indian government advisory stated. “The public is advised not to fall for these misleading calls.”

Several defence correspondents took to social media platform X to share their experiences with the suspicious calls, further confirming suspicions that this operation is orchestrated by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) unit. The outreach appears to be part of a broader psychological and information warfare tactic aimed at disrupting Indian defence operations and gathering classified intelligence.

Officials have urged citizens and journalists alike to verify any military communication only through official and trusted channels. Any attempt to extract sensitive data should be treated as a cyber threat and reported immediately to local cybercrime authorities.

With Operation Sindoor still underway, the government stressed the importance of operational secrecy and public awareness in protecting national security.
