PUNE – The summer fruit season is in full swing, and Kolkata lychees are making a flavorful impact in Pune’s local markets. Known for their vibrant red skin and juicy, aromatic pulp, lychees have quickly become a favorite among fruit lovers across the city.

Currently, lychee prices in Pune range from ₹250 to ₹350 per kilogram in retail markets, driven by rising consumer demand. According to traders at the Gultekdi Market Yard, a major wholesale fruit hub in the city, the arrival of lychees from Kolkata began on April 24 and has picked up considerable pace.

“Initially, we were receiving around 100 to 150 boxes per day,” said Shailesh Pardeshi, a wholesale lychee trader. “Now, daily arrivals have surged to nearly 1500–1600 boxes, and quality is consistently high.”

In the wholesale market, a 10-kg box of lychees is currently priced between ₹1600 and ₹2400, depending on size, freshness, and variety. Pune vendors expect these prices to remain firm as demand continues to rise through the peak of the lychee season in Maharashtra.

Adding to the variety, Bihar lychees are expected to enter the market within the coming week, offering consumers more choices. The lychee season typically extends until late June or early July, and this year’s crop is reportedly on track, with no major delays.

With quality stocks and strong supply, Pune fruit markets are witnessing a buzz of activity as shoppers flock to purchase this seasonal delight. For now, the sweet taste of Kolkata lychees is clearly stealing the show in Pune.
