Pune Crime News: NEET Aspirant Scores 710 out of 720, Dies By Suicide After Posting WhatsApp Status

Pune, May 14: In a deeply distressing incident, a 19-year-old MBBS student from AIIMS Bhopal, who had scored an impressive 710 out of 720 in the NEET examination, died by suicide in Pune in the early hours of May 12. 

The student, Utkarsh Mahadev Shingane, originally from Beed, reportedly took the extreme step due to academic pressure and mental stress. According to Wanwadi Police, Utkarsh was in Pune to attend an inter-college sports festival organised by the Medical Education Department at the AFMC ground. 

He had arrived in the city on May 8. Around dawn on May 12, he was found dead in the bathroom of his hostel accommodation after allegedly slitting his throat with a knife he had ordered online.Before taking this tragic step, Utkarsh sent a suicide note to his parents via WhatsApp and also posted a status update indicating his mental state. His sudden death has left the student community and his peers in shock and sorrow.

Participated in DJ Night Hours Before Incident

Shockingly, just hours before the incident, Utkarsh had attended a DJ night with his friends at the college fest and had even asked them to book his return ticket to Bhopal. There were no visible signs that he was planning to take such a drastic step, friends told the police.

Ordered Knife Online 

Senior Inspector Satyajit Admane of Wanwadi Police Station confirmed that the knife used in the incident was ordered online. Utkarsh locked himself in the bathroom early morning and inflicted fatal injuries. When he didn’t respond, his friends broke open the door and found him in a pool of blood. 

He was declared dead at the scene. Contents of the Suicide NoteIn his suicide note, Utkarsh wrote,”I am Utkarsh Shingane, a student of AIIMS Bhopal. I am ending my life due to academic stress and depression. I request the Education Minister to remove topics like Mughal, French, and Russian history from the curriculum and instead include biographies of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maharana Pratap.”

This message has sparked conversations online regarding the pressures faced by students in competitive academic environments. 

Academic Excellence

Utkarsh was considered academically brilliant. He had secured 710 out of 720 marks in the NEET exam and was pursuing his dream of becoming a doctor at one of the country’s top medical institutes. However, his family revealed that he had been undergoing treatment for mental health issues and had been under significant academic stress.

Police Investigation Underway

The Wanwadi Police have registered a case and further investigation is ongoing. Authorities are also examining the online purchase of the weapon used and reviewing his phone messages and social media status updates.
