Home to over 65 bamboo species and a rare cactus collection, this eco-tourism site offers a serene retreat into nature.

Nestled in the heart of Amravati district, Maharashtra, lies India’s first dedicated Bamboo Garden, a lush and immersive eco-tourism destination that combines environmental conservation with public engagement. The garden is spread over a 10-acre area on the campus of the Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM), near the picturesque Chatri Talao Lake.

Launched as part of a sustainable forestry and biodiversity initiative, the Bamboo Garden showcases over 65 varieties of bamboo, sourced from across India and Southeast Asia. These include both common and rare species such as Bambusa tuldaDendrocalamus strictus, and Phyllostachys aurea, among others. The garden also demonstrates the vast ecological, economic, and cultural importance of bamboo, often referred to as “green gold.”

A Walk Through the Green Woods

Visitors can explore scenic walking trails flanked by towering bamboo groves, cross artistically crafted bamboo bridges, and enjoy moments of quiet reflection beside a peaceful lotus pond. The layout of the park has been designed not only for recreation but also to educate the public on the versatility and sustainability of bamboo in construction, handicrafts, and daily use.

Species like OpuntiaEchinocactus grusonii, and Astrophytum myriostigma are part of this extraordinary collection, making it a rare botanical attraction in central India.

Eco-Tourism and Education

The Bamboo Garden doubles as a conservation hub and educational site, often hosting students, botanists, and nature enthusiasts. Informational signages and guided tours are available to help visitors understand bamboo cultivation, propagation techniques, and its role in carbon sequestration and climate resilience.

Managed by the FDCM in collaboration with the local forest department, the project aligns with the larger goals of promoting eco-tourism, biodiversity awareness, and sustainable development in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region.
