PMPML Issues Stern Warning: Suspension, Fine for Drivers Violating Traffic Norms
Pune, 18 May 2025 — The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has issued a strict directive warning its drivers and conductors—both from its own fleet and private contractors—of disciplinary action, including suspension and a fine of ₹2000, for violating traffic rules. The warning comes in response to numerous complaints from passengers, citizens’ groups, and elected representatives about reckless behavior and non-compliance with road safety norms.
PMPML operates bus services across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, adjoining suburbs, and areas under the PMRDA jurisdiction. It has received frequent complaints regarding unsafe driving practices, including talking on the phone while driving, stopping buses at zebra crossings, smoking in buses, failing to change route boards, not following lane discipline, and jumping traffic signals.
In an official circular, PMPML’s Chairman and Managing Director instructed all drivers and conductors to strictly follow traffic regulations. The circular notes that failure to comply will result in monetary penalties or suspension from duty.
Key Guidelines Issued to Bus Staff:
- No mobile phone use while driving.
- Strict adherence to traffic rules.
- Smoking in buses is strictly prohibited.
- Buses must be stopped at designated bus stops to ensure passenger safety.
- Maintain proper lane discipline at all times.
- Avoid overspeeding under any circumstances.
PMPML emphasized that these steps are being taken to ensure commuter safety and maintain order on city roads. The administration is urging all staff to cooperate fully to avoid strict punitive action.
