Heavy Rains Flood Pune-Solapur Road Near Patas; Innova Swept Away, Commuters Face Major Disruptions,Watch Video
Pune, May 25: Torrential rains in Maharashtra have triggered severe waterlogging and flooding across key routes, with the Pune-Solapur Highway near Patas emerging as one of the worst-affected stretches. Commuters faced immense hardship on Sunday as floodwaters submerged portions of the highway, causing major traffic disruptions.
A viral video from the spot shows vehicles stranded in deep water while some commuters took refuge on the road divider, waiting for the water to recede. The situation worsened in Daund taluka, where an Innova car was swept away by strong water currents at Swami Chincholi. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Widespread Rainfall Hits Western Maharashtra
This episode is part of a larger pattern of intense monsoon rainfall currently impacting multiple regions of Maharashtra, including Pune, Satara, and nearby districts. Over the past four days, relentless downpours have led to widespread water accumulation, hampering vehicular movement and posing serious risks to commuters.
Earlier this week, a crack developed on the Pune-Satara Highway due to rain-induced stress, raising concerns about the resilience of road infrastructure in the face of heavy monsoon activity. The incident has reignited conversations about road safety, structural quality, and emergency response systems.
Authorities Issue Safety Advisory
In light of ongoing rainfall, local authorities have urged citizens to avoid low-lying areas and flooded roads. Traffic control teams and disaster response units are on alert, monitoring vulnerable zones to prevent mishaps.
Commuters traveling on major highways in the region, especially the Pune-Solapur and Pune-Satara corridors, are advised to check weather and road condition updates before starting their journey.
