Vaishnavi Hagawane Suicide Case: Pune Court Sends Husband, Mother-in-Law, and Sister-in-Law To 14-Day Judicial Custody
Pune | May 29, 2025:
In a significant development in the Vaishnavi Hagawane suicide case, the Shivajinagar Court has sent three members of the Hagawane family — husband Shashank Hagawane, mother-in-law Lata Hagawane, and sister-in-law Karishma Hagawane — to 14 days of judicial custody.
The trio, initially remanded to one-day police custody, were produced before the court again today. The judge ruled that police interrogation has been completed for now and ordered their transfer to Yerawada Central Jail under judicial custody. Police retain the option to seek further custody if required.
Meanwhile, Santosh Dattatray Gaikwad, who misled the police by making a fake call claiming the arrest of absconding accused Nilesh Chavan, has been detained and booked based on mobile number tracking.
Anil Kaspaté, father of the deceased Vaishnavi, expressed anguish over public comments made by the accused’s legal representatives, calling them character-assassinating and misleading. He stated that he is still paying EMIs on the mobile phone given to Shashank and revealed serious allegations of dowry-related harassment, including demands for luxury vehicles such as an MG Hector and a Fortuner. He also claimed the Hagawane family was responsible for two broken marriage proposals before Vaishnavi’s wedding.
Kaspaté further alleged that Nilesh Chavan was actively involved in the conspiracy that led to his daughter’s death.
