Monsoon arrives early with intense spells forecasted in Konkan, Vidarbha; Pune to see light showers

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Satara, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Kolhapur, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorm winds. Alongside, 11 districts in Vidarbha — Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal — are expected to experience severe weather over the next three to four days, including gusty winds up to 50 km/hlightning, and intense downpours.

This heightened activity is linked to a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, both contributing to volatile conditions across the state.

Weather Forecast for Pune

Pune is expected to receive light showers on May 30 and 31, with rainfall intensifying slightly on June 1 and 2. Despite the wet weather, temperatures will remain stable, providing some relief from the pre-monsoon heat.

Mumbai & Surrounding Areas

Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Panvel will see occasional light to moderate rain under a cloudy sky, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 31°C. While not under immediate threat, citizens are advised to stay updated as the system evolves.

Statewide Monsoon Outlook

Maharashtra has witnessed the monsoon arriving 12 days ahead of schedule, with heavy rain already recorded in parts of Konkan. According to the IMD’s subdivision-wise forecast, all four meteorological regions — Konkan & Goa, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha — are likely to receive above-normal rainfall between June and September.

Impact on Ground

In Beed district, heavy rain has cut off 15 villages in Wadwani taluka, and flash floods in Amravati and Dharashiv have submerged roads within half an hour of rainfall.

Advisory to Citizens

Authorities urge residents in high-alert districts to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid flooded zones, and follow local emergency guidelines. Farmers are also advised to take precautions to protect their crops and equipment.

Stay safe, stay informed.
