Pune, May 30, 2025 – In a major breakthrough, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested Nilesh Chavan, the key accused in the Vaishnavi Hagawane death case, from the Nepal border. Chavan had been on the run for the past 10 days and was apprehended in a joint operation by multiple police teams tracking him across state and national borders.

Nilesh Chavan had been absconding since May 21 and was wanted in connection with abetment to suicide of Vaishnavi Hagawane, as well as for allegedly mistreating her infant. The Bavdhan Police had named him as a co-accused along with the Hagawane family, while Warje Police registered a separate case against him over cruelty towards the child.

Chavan is reportedly a friend of Karishma Hagawane, Vaishnavi’s sister-in-law. Due to the seriousness of the charges and the risk of him fleeing the country, a lookout notice had been issued. Four special teams from Pimpri Chinchwad Police and three from Pune Police were deployed to track his movements across various states.
