Pune, June 1 — In a major development for Pune’s aviation infrastructure, the city’s international airport has received 15 additional flight slots, raising the total from 220 to 235. The move, announced by Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol on Saturday, is expected to significantly improve flight frequency and provide much-needed relief to passengers.

The additional slots have been sanctioned following sustained efforts by Minister Mohol, who had been in constant coordination with the Indian Air Force (IAF), which manages part of the airport’s operations. Acting on the request, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari approved the expansion of flight slots between 6 am and 10:29 pm.

“This increase will not only offer more flexibility in flight timings but also open doors for airlines to enhance operations during peak morning and evening hours,” Mohol said. “While we continue to push forward with the Purandar international airport project, improving current airport facilities remains a parallel priority.”

The demand for more flight slots had been growing steadily, fueled by Pune’s emergence as a major IT, industrial, and education hub. The additional capacity will enable airlines to increase direct connectivity to key cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad, along with the potential for new domestic routes.
