Youth Congress Opposes Land Transfer From Pune Police To Dagdusheth Trust Over Security Fears

The Pune Youth Congress has strongly objected to the government’s decision to transfer 1,666.30 square meters of police department land in the densely populated Sadashiv Peth area to the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Public Ganpati Trust. They claim the move poses serious security risks.

The Youth Congress alleges that despite rising crime and a shortage of land for police stations, the Police Department issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Revenue Department, enabling the land handover. They are demanding the NOC’s immediate cancellation and reversal of the transfer order.

Highlighting Budhwar Peth’s designation as a high-security area—especially after the 2014 bomb blast—the party criticized the government for reducing police presence in such zones. They argued that if the trust needs land, it should be allotted through a fresh and independent acquisition process, not by diverting police infrastructure.

Youth Congress Media Cell head Akshay Jain cited the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to stress the need for police presence near religious sites. Though personally a Dagdusheth devotee, Jain emphasized the protest is about public safety, not faith.

Jain also claimed a Cabinet Minister and MLA recently visited another police station (Faraskhana/Vishrambaug), which he suspects is also being eyed by the trust. He warned of strong resistance if any police land is given to private entities, stating public safety must not be compromised under political influence.
