Pune, June 7 – A brief but intense spell of rain this morning turned Pune’s Hinjewadi IT Park into a virtual water park, flooding roads and severely impacting local residents and commuters. Despite lasting just a few minutes, the downpour caused significant waterlogging across the tech hub and nearby areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

In several parts of Hinjewadi, including Telco Road and Landewadi, roads were submerged within minutes, with videos surfacing showing two-wheelers being swept away by strong water currents. The sudden deluge has once again raised concerns about inadequate drainage systems and poor pre-monsoon planning by civic authorities.

Similar chaos was witnessed in Bhosari MIDC and Landewadi under Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits, where residents struggled due to water-clogged streets. The rain, which began around 10 AM, exposed the lack of preparedness by local administration, prompting criticism from citizens who accused officials of holding meetings and issuing press notes without real action.

MP Supriya Sule also expressed her disappointment over the civic failure. Sharing videos of waterlogging near Ryan International School in Hinjewadi Phase 2, she questioned whether proper drainage arrangements exist in the area. She urged the MIDC to take urgent and long-term steps to prevent such incidents, highlighting the need for timely desilting and drainage maintenance.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai, a Red Alert has been issued for the next three hours, warning of heavy rain in South Mumbai and surrounding suburbs. After a brief break in monsoon activity since June 2, rainfall has resumed in Navi Mumbai, and weather agencies predict a significant intensification in the coming hours.
