Mumbai, June 23, 2025: A massive fire broke out early Monday morning on the set of the popular Hindi television show Anupama at Film City in Goregaon, Mumbai. The blaze erupted around 5:00 AM, just two hours before the day’s scheduled shoot, causing extensive damage to the set.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, and cooling operations are currently underway. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and remains under investigation.

Anupama, starring Rupali Ganguly, is among the most-watched Indian television serials. The incident has raised serious concerns about fire safety measures in TV and film production hubs.

Workers Were Present During the Fire

According to the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), several workers and crew members were already on site preparing for the shoot when the fire broke out. AICWA stated that the fire completely destroyed the Anupama set, and neighboring sets narrowly escaped damage, preventing a potentially larger catastrophe.

Call for High-Level Investigation

Suresh Shyamlal Gupta, President of AICWA, has called upon Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to initiate a high-level judicial inquiry into the incident.

“While the Anupama set was destroyed, it is alarming that several adjoining sets narrowly escaped the flames. This could have led to an even greater disaster,” Gupta said in an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The association has emphasized the urgent need to review safety protocols at Film City to protect workers and artists involved in television and film production.

Authorities are expected to release further details once the fire department and police complete their preliminary investigation.
