Over 3.19 Lakh Commuters Use Pune Metro Amid Palkhi Procession; Khadki Station Operations Begin
Pune, June 23, 2025: A record 3.19 lakh commuters travelled on the Pune Metro on Friday, as thousands opted for the service due to traffic restrictions imposed for the annual Palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj from Alandi and Sant Tukaram Maharaj from Akurdi.
With several city roads closed to facilitate the safe passage of the palkhis, citizens from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad turned to the metro as a reliable and congestion-free travel option.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Pune Metro expressed gratitude to passengers:
“Heartfelt thanks for your trust in Pune Metro! On June 20, citizens gave an overwhelming response with 3,19,066 passengers using the metro. To meet the surge in demand, 130 additional trips were operated across both Line 1 and Line 2. We remain committed to providing a safe, timely, and comfortable journey.”
Khadki Metro Station Now Operational
In a significant development, Khadki Metro Station on the Purple Line (PCMC to Swargate) became operational from June 21.
The new station is expected to benefit residents of Khadki Bazar, Aundh, Range Hill Corner, Khadki Police Colony, and other nearby localities. It will also cater to employees of major establishments such as the Ammunition Factory, HE Factory, 512 Army Base Workshop, Railway Police Headquarters, CQAE, and the Khadki Cantonment Board.
The addition of Khadki Station marks another step forward in improving urban connectivity and reducing road traffic in Pune.
