Pune: Maharashtra Govt Sanctions Funds For Development Of 23 Villages Merged Into PMC Including Fursungi and Uruli Devachi

Pune: PMC Invites Residents To Participate In Citizens Participatory Budget 2026-27
Pune, June 26, 2025 — In a significant move to address infrastructure gaps, the Maharashtra government has approved ₹5 crore each for the development of 23 villages that were merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, including Fursungi and Uruli Devachi, now forming a separate municipal council.
This decision was made during a high-level meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House on Wednesday, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and other senior officials. The meeting reviewed pressing civic issues in the newly merged areas.
One of the key concerns raised was the severe stench from the garbage depot at Ambegaon Budruk, affecting local residents. Deputy CM Shinde directed officials to conduct an immediate inspection and implement scientific waste processing methods, including vermicomposting and proper waste segregation through planned infrastructure.
The meeting was also attended by MP Medha Kulkarni, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department Dr K H Govindraj, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Pune Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, and other senior civic officials.
The Jambhulwadi Lake, with a capacity of 65 million cubic feet, will also be treated and its water supplied to areas like Ambegaon Khurd, Budruk, Mangdewadi, and Bhilarewadi. Quality and availability of water will be verified before distribution.
Amnesty Scheme for Pending Property Tax
The discussion also included the issue of increased property tax in the merged 23 villages. PMC has been directed to urgently provide necessary infrastructure in these areas. An amnesty scheme will be launched for recovery of pending property taxes, and tax collection will be conducted as per Urban Development guidelines.
Shinde also addressed the case of 626 gram panchayat employees who were let go due to technical staffing structure issues after the merger. He instructed officials to reassess their current status and prioritize their reinstatement.
