Popular Lavani dancer questions selective demolition in Pune’s Viman Nagar, says she was unfairly targeted, receives support from MNS and public figures

Renowned Lavani dancer Hindavi Patil was left in tears after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) took action against her tea stall, Sahyadri Amruttulya, located in Pune’s Viman Nagar. A video of Hindavi breaking down and emotionally expressing her grief has gone viral, sparking widespread public sympathy and raising serious questions about selective enforcement by civic authorities.

The PMC’s anti-encroachment department recently launched a drive in Viman Nagar, targeting unauthorized commercial setups. Hindavi’s small tea stall, her livelihood was among those acted upon. According to her, the PMC broke the signboard of her shop, despite the fact that many similar shops in the area were left untouched.

“I want to know why only my shop was targeted,” said an emotional Hindavi while speaking to the media. “Who ordered this action? What have I done wrong? If this was a mistake, who is responsible? Action should be taken against the officers who demolished my board.”

Hindavi, who has transitioned from stage to street entrepreneurship, expressed her anguish not just over the loss, but also the humiliation of being singled out. She later approached PMC officials, demanding a proper explanation and fair treatment. According to her, civic officers admitted the action may have been “mistaken” but offered no resolution at the time.

In her statement, Hindavi emphasized that none of the nearby shops were touched, and she suspects bias in the selection of her stall. “Let there be an inquiry into all illegal shops. But why just mine? And who gave the instruction?” she asked, demanding transparency and justice.

As her emotional video circulated widely, support began pouring in. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) responded promptly when Hindavi approached them. Local MNS leaders extended full support, condemning the targeted action and standing by her right to work with dignity.

Popular actress Aarti Solanki, known from Bigg Boss Marathi, also voiced her support. In a strongly worded post, she criticized the double standards of society:

“Where are all those followers and leaders now who enjoy women’s dance performances? The same women, when they work hard to earn an honest living, are ignored. It’s not the girls who make Maharashtra into Bihar, it’s the ones who exploit them.”

Thanks to this public backing and growing outrage, Hindavi’s tea stall is now back in business. With renewed hope and determination, she has restarted her venture and made it clear—there’s no looking back.

The incident has opened a larger conversation around dignity of labor, gender bias, and the treatment of self-employed women in public spaces. For Hindavi Patil, what began in tears may now transform into a movement of resilience and rightful recognition.
