The Pune-Nashik and Nashik-Mumbai National Highways have deteriorated severely, with large potholes and damaged stretches posing a significant risk to commuters. The poor condition of these vital routes has led to a sharp rise in accidents. Taking note of the situation, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, urging him to initiate immediate repairs on both highways.

In his letter, Ajit Pawar highlighted that the Pune-Nashik Highway is a critical corridor for industrial, commercial, and passenger traffic. However, multiple sections of the road have developed deep potholes, resulting in frequent vehicle damage and an alarming increase in accidents. Ordinary citizens are suffering due to loss of time, higher fuel consumption, and mental distress. Pawar also expressed concern that despite regular toll collection on this highway, there has been no noticeable improvement in road quality or safety, calling the situation “unfortunate.”

Regarding the Nashik-Mumbai National Highway, Pawar pointed out serious concerns about the condition of roads in the Kasara Ghat and Igatpuri areas. He cited poorly constructed diversions and incomplete bridge works as additional hazards that endanger commuters. Noting the rising number of serious accidents on this stretch as well, he appealed for a thorough inspection of both highways and the issuance of immediate repair orders.
