Pune, July 8, 2025: Residents of Tara Baug and Sopan Baug are grappling with treacherous internal roads covered in mud, courtesy of construction trucks plying through the area. The situation has worsened with the monsoon rains, turning the roads into slippery, slushy stretches that are unsafe for motorists, pedestrians, and two-wheeler riders alike.
Housing societies such as Waters Society, Empress Court, Empress Tower, and Mahindra La Arista have been hit the hardest. Locals have raised concerns about the inconvenience and risk these poor road conditions have created.
Sachin Khandelwal, a resident of Sopan Baug, criticised the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for its inaction. “PMC must take stern action against such trucks that worsen the road conditions. The road hasn’t been repaired for over two years now. How many complaints do residents need to make before PMC responds?” he questioned.
Another resident from Anika Essentia added, “It’s both sites—Clover and the one near the railway tracks—that are contributing to the mess. The turn near Empress Court has become especially dangerous for two-wheeler riders. House helps and delivery agents complain about slipping bikes, and even auto-rickshaws refuse to enter the lane. Mud from truck and dumper tyres, combined with the rain, has turned the road into sludge.”
Residents are urging PMC to repair the neglected stretch and enforce strict measures against construction vehicles spilling debris on the roads. They warn that unless immediate steps are taken, the situation will deteriorate further, risking accidents and isolating households during heavy rains. When Pune Pulse raised the issue with the Wanwadi Ramtekdi ward office authorities they assured that action would be taken on the trucks causing slippery roads as well as the Mudliar road which needs resurfacing.
