Traffic On Pune Mumbai Expressway Likely To Be Affected As Auto, Cab Drivers To Go On Strike On July 15
Mumbai | July 14, 2025: Thousands of auto-rickshaw, cab drivers, and gig workers from across Maharashtra are set to converge at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan on July 15 for a massive statewide protest. The demonstration aims to highlight issues such as alleged exploitation by app-based service providers like Ola, Uber, and Rapido, and to oppose the operations of bike taxis in the state.
With a large number of protestors expected to travel in cabs to Mumbai, there are concerns that traffic on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway could be severely affected during the day. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid disruptions.
The agitation has garnered support from several prominent organisations and action committees across the state. Among them are “Baghtoy Rickshawala,” IGF Cabs, Bharatiya Gig Kamgar Manch, Maharashtra Navnirman Vahatuk Sena (MNS), Shiv Sena (UBT) Maharashtra Vahatuk Sena, Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh’s App-based Transport Unit, INTUC’s Transport Division, Mumbai Taximen Union, Chhatrapati Chalak Sena, and many others.
Other participating unions include Vidarbha App-Based Taxi Drivers Union Nagpur, Sambhajinagar Rickshaw Chalak Sena, Maharashtra App-Based Driver Owner Sena, and Sangharsh Paryatak Chalak Malak Sangh. The organisers claim this is one of the largest mobilisations of gig workers in recent times and warn that if their demands are not addressed, more intensified protests will follow.
