Pune, July 22, 2025: In a shocking incident, a 66-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was brutally attacked by a passenger for a minor delay in stopping the vehicle. The incident took place on July 20 at around 7:20 am on the old Pune-Mumbai highway near Kendriya Vidyalaya 2.

The victim, identified as Subhash Laxman Chavan from Samata Colony, Rahatani, had picked up an unidentified man from near Pimpri station. The passenger had asked to be dropped at Prati Shirdi in Shirgaon. During the ride, the passenger suddenly asked Chavan to halt as he urgently needed to relieve himself. Since the rickshaw was moving at high speed, Chavan slowed down gradually instead of stopping immediately.

This reportedly enraged the passenger, who pulled out a sharp object and attacked Chavan from behind, slitting his throat. The accused then fled the spot, leaving the grievously injured driver to fend for himself. Despite his critical condition, Chavan managed to drive to a nearby hospital for treatment.
