Pune: Sinhgad Road Flyover Nears Completion; Full Stretch To Open For Traffic By Mid-August
Pune, July 24, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is in the final phase of completing the Sinhgad Road flyover project. The flyover, aimed at easing traffic congestion on Narveer Tanaji Malusare Road (Sinhgad Road), is expected to be fully opened to commuters by mid-August 2025. Once operational, the stretch from Funtime Theater to Vitthalwadi will offer smoother and faster travel.
The flyover, constructed at a cost of ₹118 crore, is among the longest in the city, spanning approximately 2.5 km. The dual-flyover plan was approved to tackle persistent traffic snarls in the area. Work began on September 21, 2021.
The first phase, from Inamdar Chowk to Funtime Theater, was opened to the public ahead of schedule on May 1, 2025. PMC had originally planned to open the remaining side—from Manik Baug to Vitthalwadi—by the end of December. However, work progressed rapidly, and the final phase is nearly complete.
Municipal officials had planned to open the third phase—from Funtime Theater toward Inamdar Chowk—in July. Much of the asphalting and concrete work on this side is finished, with only minor tasks pending. Recent rainfall caused slight delays, but PMC officials expect to wrap up all work within the next two weeks. PMC Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. recently inspected the site along with Project Head Dinkar Gojare.
The ramp sections and under-flyover road concreting have also been completed. Only minor work remains, and PMC assures that the flyover will be ready for public use shortly.
Meanwhile, issues related to land acquisition for the Karvenagar to Suncity bridge have also been resolved, and necessary processes will be completed within a week.
However, traffic congestion remains an issue despite the flyover. While PMC and traffic police have made several attempts to address the problem, bottlenecks still occur, especially during peak hours. After the third phase opens, new traffic jams are anticipated near Vitthalwadi Chowk and the nearby petrol pump. Roadside encroachment work, including narrowing of footpaths, is currently underway to manage traffic more efficiently.
