Pune: The vote recount for the Hadapsar Assembly constituency, initially scheduled between July 25 and August 2, 2025, has been postponed due to technical complications linked to an ongoing case in the Mumbai High Court.

The recount was demanded by Prashant Jagtap, Pune City President of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar faction), who narrowly lost the Hadapsar seat in the 2024 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections held on November 23, 2024. Jagtap claimed irregularities in the counting process and requested a re-verification of 27 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He also paid ₹12.74 lakh towards the official recount process.

Though the Election Commission initially permitted the recount, it mistakenly counted mock poll data instead of actual votes, drawing criticism. Jagtap escalated the matter to the Supreme Court, which ruled in his favor and ordered a recount based on actual votes cast.

With the High Court verdict on the election petition still pending, the recount process has been temporarily halted.

Reacting to the development, Jagtap said, “Justice may be delayed, but not denied. The truth will eventually come out once the recount is conducted.”
