Pune Addl CP Manoj Patil Responds To Public On Helmet Laws, Towing, And Traffic Issues On X Live Session
Pune | July 28, 2025 – In a move to enhance public engagement and address growing concerns around traffic issues, Additional Commissioner of Pune City Traffic Police, Manoj Patil, hosted a live session on Twitter (now X) on Monday. Citizens actively participated by raising questions about helmet rules, signal enforcement, vehicle towing, and increasing violations across the city.
Key Highlights from the Interaction:
- Helmet Rule & Number Plate Violations:
A citizen flagged the growing trend of two-wheelers operating without rear number plates and the lack of police checks at traffic signals. Patil acknowledged the issue and assured better enforcement moving forward.
- Jumping Signals Equals Danger:
Another user compared jumping traffic signals to “attempted murder” and urged stricter implementation. Patil clarified that while the comparison was extreme, the department is actively deploying AI-based Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) and manual enforcement to curb such violations.
- Towing Concerns:
On being questioned about improper towing practices and lack of announcements, Patil reiterated that towing is legally permitted in Pune. Police personnel are instructed to announce before towing. He added that if a vehicle owner arrives before the vehicle is lifted, towing charges are waived. Citizens were encouraged to report any irregularities with evidence.
- Challenges in Enforcing Basic Traffic Rules:
Responding to concerns about wrong-side driving and signal violations, Patil shared that traffic challans have doubled, and there’s been a 400% surge in action against triple-seat riding and wrong-side driving.
The session demonstrated the Traffic Police’s intent to connect directly with the public, gather feedback, and boost accountability through transparent digital engagement.
