Khed Shivapur, July 30, 2025: A major road accident on the Pune-Satara highway near Velu in Bhor taluka claimed the lives of two motorcyclists and left one person seriously injured on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. when a speeding truck (MH 04 KU 1144), travelling from Pune to Satara, lost control while descending the Sasewadi flyover. The truck veered across the central divider into the opposite lane and crashed into an oncoming container (HR 55 AP 3356), a pickup vehicle, and three motorcycles, including a Splendor (MH 12 MY 1455). The truck overturned after the collision, causing significant damage.

The deceased have been identified as Prathamesh Mahadev Redekar (32), a resident of Sangli, and Divyam Sunil Nikam (31), from Nehru Nagar, Dhule. Both were declared dead on arrival at Bharati Hospital in Pune.

Sanjay Shrirang Khatpe (42), a resident of Hingewathar in Bhor, who was driving the pickup jeep (MH 12 JF 5288), sustained a severe head injury and is currently undergoing treatment.

Emergency teams from WOM company and local residents rushed to the scene to assist the injured. Rajgad Police responded promptly, clearing the wreckage and restoring traffic movement.

Truck driver Mehtab Dafedar, a resident of Kothawali, West Bengal, has been taken into custody. Rajgad Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
