Pune: Punawale Residents Demand Action As Poor Road Claims Woman’s Life
Pimpri-Chinchwad, July 31, 2025: A tragic accident near the Puneville Society in Punawale claimed the life of a woman, once again highlighting the dire state of road and traffic conditions in the area. The incident, which took place yesterday, sparked immediate concern among local residents and leaders.
Chinchwad constituency MLA Shankar Jagtap, senior officials from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and traffic police came together for a thorough inspection of the road and traffic system along with local residents.
During the site visit, officials were issued strict instructions to undertake immediate corrective measures, including:
- Urgent road repairs
- Installation of speed breakers where necessary
- Daytime ban on heavy vehicle movement in residential zones
- Placement of barricades and warning signs around construction sites
- Action against illegal water discharge on roads
- Deployment of additional traffic police
- Pothole-free road initiative
- Installation of traffic signals at key junctions
- Acceleration of the proposed underpass and DP Road works
The representative assured residents that quality infrastructure is their right, given the taxes they pay, and committed to fast-tracking all critical development work.
The site visit was attended by DCP Traffic Vivek Patil, PI Pinjan, PCMC engineers Sunil Shinde and Suryawanshi, and local leaders including Chetan Bhujbal, Jagdish Shetty, Suresh Ranavade, and society chairpersons from Puneville and surrounding societies.
Meanwhile, the Punawale Pimpri Chinchwad Residents Forum expressed deep frustration, stating on social media: “Another precious life lost in Punawale due to continued neglect by authorities. Despite repeated warnings, heavy vehicles still storm through residential lanes. How many more lives must be lost before action is taken?”
