But if you’re caught carrying more than the permissible quantity, or worse, transporting alcohol into or through a dry state, the penalties can be steep. Offenders may be fined between ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 depending on the violation and the state law involved. In some cases, especially in dry states, the offense can even lead to imprisonment.
