Pune, August 4, 2025: A shocking incident reminiscent of scenes from the film Sairat unfolded in broad daylight in Kharpudi village of Khed taluka, Pune district. A couple who had married across caste lines was attacked, with the husband being brutally beaten and the wife abducted. The incident has created a stir in the region.
According to reports, Vishwanath Gosavi and his wife Prajakta Gosavi had a love marriage despite being from different castes. They were living together in Kharpudi village. However, some of their relatives disapproved of their relationship.
On Sunday evening, members of Prajakta’s family allegedly came to the village, assaulted Vishwanath, and forcibly abducted Prajakta. A case has been registered at the Khed Police Station against a total of 15 individuals, including Prajakta’s brother and mother, for kidnapping and serious assault.
Police have launched an investigation and are actively searching for Prajakta. The case has raised concerns about rising social tensions linked to inter-caste marriages. Authorities have deployed additional police personnel in the Kharpudi area to prevent any further unrest.
A senior police officer stated, “We are investigating the matter thoroughly and are working to arrest all those involved as soon as possible.”
