51 Tourists From Maharashtra Stranded in Uttarkashi After Cloudburst, Helpline Number Announced
In light of the severe situation caused by heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, the State Emergency Operations Center, Maharashtra, has issued the following update:
A cloudburst occurred in Dharali village of Uttarkashi district, leading to a massive flood in the Khirganga river. Several houses have been damaged and landslides have also been reported in some areas.
Tourists from various districts of Maharashtra are stranded in Uttarkashi. These tourists or their family members have contacted the State Emergency Operations Center in Maharashtra. The center is in continuous coordination with the Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Authority and the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority.
As per the latest information received, 11 tourists from Nanded district and 40 from other districts—totaling 51 tourists from Maharashtra—are reported to be safe.
Instructions have been issued to the respective district administrations for necessary action. The Maharashtra State Emergency Operations Center is closely monitoring the situation. It is maintaining regular communication with the Uttarakhand Emergency Operations Center and the control room in Uttarkashi.
Efforts are underway, in coordination with Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi, to evacuate the stranded tourists as soon as possible. Further advisories will be issued as needed.
