PCMC Grants 50% Property Tax Relief to Residents in Red Zone Areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pimpri-Chinchwad, August 6, 2025: In a significant move that brings major relief to property holders in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s protected (Red Zone) areas, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced a 50% reduction in the general component of property tax. This long-awaited decision addresses the grievances of residents living near the Central Ammunition Depot’s protected zone.

The Red Zone includes regions within a 2,000-yard radius from the Defence wall of the Central Ammunition Depot and covers parts of Kiwale, Talwade, Chikhali, Nigdi, Bhosari, and Dighi. Due to national security restrictions, these areas face limitations on construction, development, and property transactions. Despite paying property tax, residents have repeatedly complained about the lack of basic amenities and development works, often highlighting the issue as “taxes without facilities.”

Taking cognizance of the issue, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar intervened and directed officials to address the matter urgently. Following this, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh took decisive action and announced the 50% concession in general tax for properties in the Red Zone.

This historic decision will be implemented from the financial year 2026-27 and is expected to benefit thousands of residents who have been demanding tax relief for years. The move is seen as a significant step towards balancing civic responsibilities and citizen rights in restricted zones.
