Updated July 1 Voter List To Be Used For Upcoming Civic Elections Across Maharashtra
Pune, August 8, 2025: The Maharashtra State Election Commission has announced that the voter list updated as of July 1, 2025, originally prepared for the state assembly elections, will be used for the upcoming civic elections. State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare confirmed that formal approval from the Election Commission of India is currently being sought for this plan.
In a comprehensive review meeting held on Thursday at Pune’s Council Hall, Waghmare assessed the election readiness of five districts in the Pune division — Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur — where elections for municipal corporations, councils, and Zilla Parishads are scheduled.
Highlighting the scale of the upcoming elections, Waghmare said, “For the first time, as per the Supreme Court’s guidelines, polls for around 650 local bodies across Maharashtra will be conducted simultaneously. With multi-member wards involved, this exercise will require more polling booths and extensive planning.”
District administrations have been directed to make arrangements for manpower deployment, polling stations, and logistical support based on the updated electoral roll. To meet the increased demand for voting equipment, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be sourced from Madhya Pradesh.
Suresh Kakani, secretary of the State Election Commission, emphasized the need to ensure EVM safety, storage, and preliminary checks before polling. He added that District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) funds may be utilized for EVM maintenance.
The review meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar, along with district collectors and municipal commissioners from the five districts. Pulkundwar shared updates on regional preparations and assured full cooperation in ensuring smooth civic elections.
