Happy Holidays: Indian Railways Announces 20% Rebate on Confirmed Return Journey Tickets for Festive Season Travel
Railways offers 20% discount on return fares for festive season, book both journeys together to save.
The Ministry of Railways has introduced a special “Round Trip Package for Festival Rush” scheme to ease congestion and improve passenger convenience during the upcoming festive season. Passengers booking confirmed tickets for both onward and return journeys—on the same origin-destination pair, travel class, and for the same set of passengers—will receive a 20% rebate on the base fare of the return ticket.
Bookings under the scheme will open on August 14, 2025. The onward journey must be scheduled between October 13 and October 26, 2025, while the corresponding return journey must fall between November 17 and December 1, 2025, booked using the connecting journey feature. The usual 60-day advance reservation period will not apply to return journeys.
The offer is available across all classes and trains, including special “Trains on Demand,” but excludes those with flexi-fare pricing. Only confirmed tickets qualify, and no refunds, modifications, or additional concessions will be permitted. Both tickets must be booked through the same mode either online or at a railway reservation counter.
To claim the rebate, passengers must book the onward ticket first, then immediately book the return ticket using the connecting journey option for the same route and class. The scheme aims to redistribute travel demand, improve train utilisation, and make long vacation planning more cost-effective.
