Ganeshotsav travellers to get a speedy six-hour Mumbai–Konkan Ro-Ro ferry service before the festival.

In a major boost for devotees travelling to Konkan for Ganesh Chaturthi 2025, the Maharashtra Maritime Board has announced a Mumbai–Vijaydurg Ro-Ro ferry service, set to start two to three days before the festival. Trial runs are planned after August 20, 2025, with the aim of launching the service just in time for the festivities.

The route will connect Mazgaon in Mumbai to Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg district, also benefiting travellers headed to Devgad, Malvan, and Rajapur. Operated by M2M Ferries, the same company running the Mumbai–Mandwa service, the vessel will carry 50 to 60 cars and 400 to 500 passengers per trip. Two round trips are planned daily.

The journey, which currently takes 13–14 hours by Konkan Railway, will be reduced to just six hours. This faster option is expected to draw strong interest from festive travellers.

Estimated fares for passengers range from ₹600 to ₹1,000, while vehicle transport is expected to cost ₹1,500 to ₹2,000. Final rates will be confirmed and announced soon. Infrastructure upgrades at Vijaydurg Jetty and Mazgaon port are underway on a war footing to meet the launch timeline.
