Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune located near the beautiful Khadakwasla Lake, is a leading academic institution that comes under the Ministry of Defence. It offers M.Tech, MSc and Ph.D. degrees in various areas of Engineering and science background. It focuses on high-level research and teaching activities in view of strengthening national security and self-reliance. 

It is involved in the development of indigenous contemporary Defence related technologies in Advanced Sensing, Radar Technology, Data Science, Quantum Technologies, Energy and Environmental systems, Mechanical and Aerospace systems, Laser and Optical systems, Cyber security, Artificial Intelligence and Weapon Systems for DRDO and Defence Services. From July 2024, DIAT has started M Tech in Industrial System Engineering for L&T Defence Officers. 

From Academic Year July 2025, DIAT Aerospace Engg will start a new M tech program on Industrial Systems Engineering (Specialization: Model Based Systems Engineering) for working professionals. Two more departments namely Dept of Metallurgical & Materials Engg and Dept of Applied Physics programmes got NBA accreditation.

DIAT celebrated its 14th Convocation on 09th August 2025 in the presence of the Secretary, the Department of Defence R&D, and Chairman Governing Council (DIAT), Dr Samir V.  Kamat. Dr SV Kamat graced the occasion as a chief guest and addressed the convocation. He was accompanied by the Vice Chancellor (DIAT), Dr BHVS Narayan Murthy and many distinguished guests and invitees from DRDO, Academia, Tri-services and Industries. At the 14th convocation, the Institute awarded degrees to 298 students including 206 M.Tech students, 68 MSc and 24 Ph.D. students from various disciplines. A total number of 18 gold medals were awarded to students in the convocation this year.

On the occasion of the 14th convocation, Hon’ble Secretary, Department of Defence R&D Dr S V Kamat congratulated all the students for their accomplishments. He stated that the DIAT has made tremendous progress in the fields of technology which will continue to spur the development of the nation and help the educated youth to become self-reliant. He motivated the passing-out student officers and regular students to contribute to serving the nation by adopting the latest world-class technologies and by being front-line entrepreneurs. He expressed the students will contribute towards taking the nation to new heights and realizing “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. 

He concluded his address by extending his warm wishes and appreciation to the faculty members and employees of DIAT for their wholehearted efforts in academics, training and skill development.
