Solapur, August 13, 2025: After the successful launch of the Solapur-Goa route in June, Solapur is set to get another air connectivity boost with a direct flight service to Mumbai. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol announced on Monday that the Maharashtra State Cabinet has approved Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for the new route, paving the way for its commencement soon.

Thanking Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mohol said, “The dedicated service will definitely benefit Solapur and the surrounding districts and will certainly boost tourism and entrepreneurship.”

The upcoming Solapur-Mumbai service will be the second operational route from Solapur’s Hotagi Road Airport, following the Solapur-Goa flight, which operates four days a week. The Goa service, inaugurated in June by CM Fadnavis, marked the city’s first air route in 15 years.

Mohol also shared that efforts are underway to enhance Solapur’s airport facilities, including enabling night landings and extending the runway. Future connectivity plans include flights linking Solapur to Tirupati and Hyderabad.

The VGF scheme is designed to support infrastructure projects that are economically viable in the long run but face short-term financial challenges, ensuring essential services like regional flights can be launched and sustained.
