Watch Mumbai 's True Heroes: Mumbai School Bus Shut Down On Flooded Road, Cops Come To Rescue
Police carry children through waist-deep water as heavy rains cause chaos in the city
Mumbai’s relentless downpour led to a moment of both anxiety and relief on Monday when a school bus carrying seven children and two staff members of Don Bosco School, Matunga, broke down on a waterlogged road near King’s Circle.
Stranded in rising water, the school staff dialled for help. Soon, police officers from a nearby station arrived in yellow raincoats and carried the children through waist-deep water to safety. A video of the heartwarming rescue, now viral on social media, shows policemen gently lifting the children, who clutched their school bags and water bottles, and taking them to the police station.
The children, though slightly shaken, were safe and even appeared excited during the rescue. At the police station, they were offered biscuits while waiting for their parents to arrive.

Rain Disrupts Mumbai
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for schools and colleges, urging citizens to avoid stepping out unless necessary. Residents have been advised to call the BMC helpline 1916 for emergencies.
Heavy rainfall has left several areas waterlogged, triggering massive traffic jams. According to officials, the city recorded 54 mm of rain in 24 hours, while suburbs received 65–72 mm.
The weather has also disrupted air travel. Nine go-arounds and at least one flight diversion were reported, with an average delay of 54 minutes for departures, according to Flightradar24. Local trains — Mumbai’s lifeline — are running 15–20 minutes behind schedule.
Despite the chaos, the prompt action of Mumbai Police ensured a safe ending for the children stranded in the flooded bus.
