Pune, August 19, 2025: Authorities have announced controlled water discharge from Khadakwasla and Varasgaon dams due to rapidly rising water levels and intense rainfall in the catchment areas.

Orange Alert For Pune District 

The weather forecasting Authority has also issued an orange alert for Pune district areas, Chatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Jalna, Nanded, Nandurbar, Nashik, Beed, Satara and Kolhapur for the next three hours.

At Khadakwasla Dam, water discharge began at 8:00 am with 2,178 cusecs, which was further increased to 4,170 cusecs at 9:00 am on Tuesday morning. Officials have stated that discharge levels may be adjusted depending on rainfall and inflow.

Similarly, at Varasgaon Dam, the existing release of 1,276 cusecs has been increased to 3,309.70 cusecs through the spillway and an additional 600 cusecs through the power generation unit, making the total discharge 3,909.70 cusecs from 8:00 am today.

The irrigation department has issued a safety advisory, urging citizens not to enter riverbeds and to immediately move livestock and belongings from low-lying areas. Residents in flood-prone zones are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
