End of an Era: Jaswinder Bhalla’s Death Leaves Punjabi Industry Shattered – Here’s How Celebs Reacted
Popular Punjabi comedian and actor Jaswinder Bhalla died at the age of 65 in the early hours of Friday, August 22. According to reports, he passed away at Fortis Hospital in Mohali. His last rites will reportedly be held on Saturday at Balongi, where many of his colleagues from the Punjabi film industry are expected to attend.
Hospitalization Before Death
As reported, Bhalla suffered a brain stroke on Wednesday evening and was rushed to Fortis Hospital in Mohali. Doctors revealed that along with the stroke, he had also lost a significant amount of blood. Despite being under treatment for the last couple of days, he breathed his last on Friday morning.

Several celebrities took to social media to mourn the loss of Jaswinder Bhalla. Among them, Gippy Grewal shared a deeply emotional note, recalling the actor as a guiding force in his life.
Grewal wrote, “It’s very hard to believe. I’m in shock. He was like a father, mentor, and the talented actor to us in the whole industry, creating memories and enjoying moments like family. Our bond was very strong. This is the worst news. May he rest in peace. All my strength to the family. His legacy will live on through his work, and his impact on our lives will never be forgotten. I’ll cherish the memories we shared and the lessons he taught me. You will always be in my heart @jaswinderbhalla Bhaji (sic).”

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also expressed grief on X, describing the loss as deeply painful. He posted, “The sudden departure of Jaswinder Bhalla Ji from this world is extremely sorrowful. The heart is saddened by the silence of the jingle of Chhankatian.”

Career in Punjabi Cinema
Jaswinder Bhalla was one of the most loved actors in Punjabi cinema, known mainly for his comic timing and memorable characters. His acting journey began with films like Dulha Bhatti, and he also worked in Jaspal Bhatti’s Hindi-language comedy Mahaul Theek Hai (1999).
Over nearly three decades, he became a household name through hit Punjabi films such as Jatt and Juliet, Sardaar Ji, and the Carry On Jatta franchise. His role as Advocate Dhillon in Carry On Jatta, Carry On Jatta 2, and Carry On Jatta 3 made him especially popular. He was also known for his trademark catchphrases that gave a unique identity to each of his characters.
Bhalla’s last film was the 2024 release Shinda Shinda No Papa, starring Gippy Grewal and Hina Khan.
Family Life
Jaswinder Bhalla was married to Parmdeep, a fine arts teacher in Chandigarh. Their son, Pukhraj Bhalla, followed in his father’s footsteps and entered Punjabi cinema after initially training as an engineer. He began with music videos in the 2000s and later acted in films. Both father and son appeared together in the 2013 Punjabi film Stupid 7.
